Ennis isn’t just about staying active; it’s about staying well. From fitness studios and martial arts to running groups, our town has everything you need to live a balanced and energized lifestyle. Here are five local businesses helping the community get fit, feel good, and stay motivated.
Downtown Bubfit
At Downtown BubFit, fitness is personal, and there’s something for everyone—whether you’re looking for the energy of a group setting or the focus of one-on-one training. Head trainer and owner Jesse “Bubba” Martinez brings 25 years of experience to both personal and private group training sessions, offering a supportive and private environment to help you kickstart—or continue—your fitness journey. For those who thrive in a community atmosphere, BubFit’s group classes are full of goal-oriented, encouraging individuals who treat each other like family. Coach Jesse thoughtfully programs each workout to help you improve performance, stay motivated, and have fun. The studio also offers beat-based mat Pilates classes, led by co-owner Heather Martinez, which deliver a full-body, core-focused workout with energizing flow and a restorative cool-down. Whether you're sculpting, strengthening, or just getting started, BubFit is ready to welcome you into their growing fitness family.
Avant-Garde Dance
Avant Garde Dance Studio brings a unique energy to the Ennis fitness scene by making dance both accessible and enjoyable for all skill levels. With a mission to foster growth in a nurturing yet disciplined environment, the studio welcomes dancers pursuing professional careers as well as those simply exploring a passion for movement. Operating locations in both Hubbard and Ennis, Avant Garde offers a Competitive Program for students aiming for a future in Fine Arts or professional dance, as well as Recreational Classes for those looking to enjoy dance in a relaxed, pressure-free setting. Deeply rooted in the community, Avant Garde participates in local charity events, fundraisers, and sponsorship efforts to ensure dance remains within reach for everyone. Whether through intense training or fun-filled classes, Avant Garde Dance Studio supports each student in discovering their path in the arts.
Ennis Black Belt Academy
Ennis Black Belt Academy has been a cornerstone of the Ennis community for over two decades, dedicated to shaping disciplined, respectful, and confident martial artists. Founded by Master Jackie Self around the year 2000, the academy has trained hundreds of students, many of whom have achieved the prestigious black belt rank. Known for its positive and professional environment, Ennis Black Belt Academy emphasizes core values such as courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit. After 20+ years of leadership, Master Self passed the torch to two of her accomplished black belt students, David Petti and Erika Hernandez, who now carry forward her legacy. Today, the academy continues to inspire and empower the next generation through martial arts education that leaves a lasting impact both on and off the mat.
Ennis Run Club
Ennis Run Club started with a simple goal: to bring local runners together and build a stronger sense of community in Ennis, Texas. What began as a Facebook group created by Tera Schmidt soon merged with Stacey Goodman’s dream of organizing a community run. Their shared vision laid the groundwork for both the Ennis Run Club and the now-beloved Ennis Community Run. The group found its perfect launch point with the grand opening of Sunshine Brews, where they hosted their first official run—blending fitness, friendship, and local flavor. That first outing included just three runners, but the club has since grown into a thriving group with over a dozen regular participants and Saturday morning meetups that often see more than 20 runners lacing up. With community at its core, the Ennis Run Club continues to inspire locals to get moving and connect through a shared passion for running. The Ennis Run Club meets every Saturday at 7 a.m. in front of Sunshine Brews, where runners gather to kick off the weekend with a community-paced run and a good cup of coffee. Whether you're a seasoned runner or just starting out, all are welcome to join in the fun and connect through movement.
Yoga MATters
YOGA MATters is more than just a yoga studio—it's a supportive space dedicated to helping individuals care for their body, mind, and spirit. With a mission rooted in breath-based strength and self-awareness, YOGA MATters offers a variety of classes that welcome students of all levels. Whether you're flowing through Vinyasa, easing into Gentle Slow Flow, or finding calm in Restorative Praise Yoga (a free Saturday class that donates to Ennis CARES), each session is designed to build resilience and promote healing. Their weekly schedule includes early morning Sunrise Flows, evening tune-ups, and a mix of cardio, barre, and yin-inspired sessions. All classes are 45 minutes and held in a gently heated 80°F studio. Flexible pricing options—including single, family, and drop-in rates—make it easy for anyone to begin their practice. At YOGA MATters, the message is clear: yoga matters because you matter.
If you’re looking to get moving in Ennis, there’s honestly something for everyone. Want a solid sweat session and someone to keep you accountable? Downtown BubFit has built a great little community downtown. Prefer a slower pace and a chance to reset? YOGA MATters offers gentle, breath-focused classes that feel like a deep exhale. If you’re into dance—whether it’s for fun or you’ve got serious goals—Avant Garde Dance Studio has you covered. There’s even a tight-knit group of runners meeting at Sunshine Brews every Saturday morning, thanks to the Ennis Run Club. And for something a little different, Ennis Black Belt Academy is all about building strength and focus through martial arts. Whatever you're into, Ennis has some great local spots where you can move your body, meet good people, and maybe even find your thing.
